A simple trick that turns “no way” into “yum!”
If you’ve got a picky pup, you know the struggle is real when it comes to supplements.
You spend the time researching the best products, buying them, opening the bottle—and then your dog takes one sniff and walks away like it’s poison. 🙃
That was me with Gabby and Maci… until I discovered the liverwurst trick. Now? They think they’re getting a gourmet treat.
Here’s exactly how I make Liverwurst Supplement Balls that are pup-approved, supplement-packed, and easy to prep in minutes.
✨ What You’ll Need:
• A roll or block of liverwurst (I use a natural brand with limited ingredients)
• A small knife or spoon
• Your pup’s daily supplements
• A clean coffee grinder (for powdering tablets or capsules)
🍖 Step-by-Step Instructions:
1️⃣ Slice the Liverwurst
Cut a 1/2” thick slice off the block. Then slice that in half again to create a half-circle shape. This gives you the perfect portion to work with and keeps things manageable.
2️⃣ Grind Up the Supplements
Using a clean coffee grinder, grind tablets or capsules into a fine powder. (If you’re using chewables or softgels, skip this step and mash them in manually.)
💡 Bonus tip: Clean the grinder right after to avoid any lingering smells or residue!
3️⃣ Mix the Powder into the Liverwurst
Use a spoon or your fingers to mash the supplement powder into the liverwurst until it’s fully mixed and smooth. The key is to make sure the powder is completely hidden—no visible grains or chunks.
4️⃣ Shape & Serve!
Roll it into a small ball or just leave it as-is. Offer it like a treat, and watch your pup gobble it up with a tail wag!
🐶 Why It Works (Even for Super Picky Dogs)
Gabby is a pro-level supplement detector—but she can’t resist the liverwurst balls. And because she eats hers so eagerly, Maci follows right along. It turns supplement time from a battle into a bonding moment.
Plus, liverwurst is soft, easy to digest, and has a strong enough scent to mask most powders completely.
✅ Pro Tips:
• Store prepped balls in the fridge for up to 2–3 days
• You can also prep a week’s worth and freeze them in small batches
• Always check with your vet if your dog has food sensitivities or special dietary needs
