What I Feed My Yorkies in a Day (And Why I Chose This Routine)

Posted on April 21 | Yorkie Tales Blog – Setareh Yorkies

When it comes to our Yorkies, nutrition is everything. With those tiny bodies and big personalities, they need high-quality food that supports their energy, immune system, digestion, and coat health. I used to feel overwhelmed by all the options—kibble, raw, home-cooked, fresh food, freeze-dried—but after lots of research and personal experience, I’ve found a routine that works beautifully for Maci and Gabby.

Today I’m walking you through exactly what I feed my Yorkies in a day and why I chose this particular approach. Spoiler alert: it’s simple, clean, and backed by results!

🐾 Why I Switched to Fresh + Functional Feeding

When I first became a Yorkie mom, I started with what most people use: a decent-quality kibble. But over time, I noticed things like:

Tear staining

Occasional tummy upset

Dry, flaky skin

Picky eating tendencies

That’s when I started diving into canine nutrition and realized Yorkies thrive on real food—just like we do. Enter: fresh feeding with functional support from PawTree. It made a night-and-day difference.

🍽 What I Feed in a Typical Day

Here’s a snapshot of my girls’ daily meals:

Morning (Breakfast)

Fresh or lightly cooked meat (usually ground turkey, chicken, or beef)

Steamed veggies (like zucchini, green beans, or carrots—chopped fine)

PawTree Superfood Seasoning sprinkled on top for picky eater appeal

Small amount of goat milk or bone broth for hydration and gut health

Evening (Dinner)

PawTree Freeze-Dried Raw Patties rehydrated with warm water

Topped with:

Omega-3 fish oil supplement (for skin + coat)

PawTree Gastro Pro Plus (their daily probiotic)

A sprinkle of pumpkin or sweet potato (for fiber and digestive support)

Throughout the Day

Fresh filtered water always available

Occasional treats:

Freeze-dried liver

PawTree Dental Sticks (Yorkie-size friendly)

Sliced blueberries or banana as a snack

🌿 Why This Routine Works for Us

Balanced nutrition – I’m intentional about protein, fiber, and healthy fats

Supports gut & skin health – since adding probiotics and omega oils, their coats are shinier and their tummies are happier

Picky-eater approved – The seasonings from PawTree made mealtime exciting again

Safe & easy to prep – I make small batches and freeze portions to keep things convenient and fresh

🐶 A Few Feeding Tips for Fellow Yorkie Parents

Yorkies have small tummies—they do best with two meals a day instead of one

Use glass or stainless steel bowls to avoid bacteria buildup and chin acne

Always introduce new foods gradually to avoid digestive upset

Track what works! I keep a simple feeding journal to note any changes in appetite, energy, or stool (yes, poop counts!)

Final Thoughts

Feeding fresh doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. With a little planning and the right products, your Yorkies can enjoy mealtimes that support their health and taste amazing. I truly believe this routine has helped Maci and Gabby thrive from the inside out.
