š¾ A Day in the Life of a Yorkie Breeder
Posted May 11 | Yorkie Tales Blog ā Setareh Yorkies
People often imagine the life of a Yorkie breeder as nonstop snuggles and adorable puppy playtime (and yes, thereās a lot of that)ābut thereās also early mornings, late nights, and more loads of laundry than anyone wants to talk about. š
At Setareh Yorkies, weāre not just breedersāweāre full-time caretakers, trainers, nutritionists, socializers, and professional puppy paparazzi. If youāve ever wondered what really goes into raising these sweet souls⦠hereās a little glimpse into our world.
āļø 6:30 AM ā Morning Wake-Up & Potty Time
Before the coffee even brews, itās potty break time! Puppies have small bladders, and we stick to a tight schedule to help reinforce early potty training.
The older dogs head out for their morning routine, while the younger ones get cleaned up, pottied on pads, and praised like they just won a medal. Because letās be honestāwhen youāre 10 weeks old and nail the potty pad? Thatās a big deal.
š§¼ 7:30 AM ā Clean-Up & Feeding Frenzy
Every surface is wiped down, bedding is changed, food bowls are prepped, and fresh water is poured. We prepare tailored meals (with supplements or salmon oil when needed) and monitor feeding habits closelyāespecially for puppies still weaning or transitioning.
Pro tip: if itās a bath day, prepare to get wet. Very wet. š¦
š¾ 9:00 AM ā Socialization & Training Sessions
This is one of our favorite parts of the day: social time and confidence building!
Depending on the age group, this might include:
-
Leash exposure
-
Crate introduction
-
Gentle brushing
-
Meeting new people or playing with toys
-
Quiet exposure to household sounds (TVs, vacuums, etc.)
The goal? Build brave, well-adjusted pups who are ready to thrive in real homes.
š» 12:00 PM ā Admin Time & Puppy Parent Updates
Emails, vet scheduling, and updating future families with photos or milestone check-insāitās all part of the job.
We also use this time to update social media (hi, @setarehyorkies fam!), prep blog content, and document puppy progress for our records.
š 2:00 PM ā Play, Snuggles & Nap Time
Yes, thereās plenty of structured timeābut unstructured cuddles and silly playtime matter just as much. Puppies learn how to interact with people, other animals, and their littermates in the most natural way: by being puppies.
Also, naptime is sacred. (And sometimes I sneak one, too. Shhh.)
š 7:00 PM ā Evening Feeding, Wind-Down & One Last Potty Run
Evenings mirror our morningsādinner, water, play, and cleanup.
We end the day with wind-down routines like calm music, snuggles, and getting everyone settled into their spaces. And yes, bedtime kisses are non-negotiable.
š Why Itās Worth It
Being a breeder is joyful and exhausting and beautiful and chaotic all at once. But the moment a puppy meets their forever familyātail wagging, heart open, ready for their new life? Itās pure magic.
We donāt just raise Yorkies.
We raise family members.
And every moment behind the scenes is poured into giving them the very best start.
Thanks for spending the day with usāmessy hair, muddy paw prints and all. š
With love + a little dog hair on everything,
Written with love by Heather, proud owner of Setareh Yorkies. š¶š
