Posted May 23, 2025 | Yorkie Care Tips
Yorkies are known for their beautiful, silky coatsābut anyone whoās lived with one knows it takes some real love (and the right tools!) to keep them looking and feeling their best.
Over the years, weāve tried so many products. Some we loved. Some⦠not so much. So today, Iām sharing our real-life favorites, what we avoid, and how grooming has become a special part of our daily and weekly routine with our girls.
š¶ Grooming Isnāt Just About Looks
Sure, a clean, brushed-out Yorkie is adorable. But grooming is about so much more than appearance.
Itās about:
-
Keeping skin healthy
-
Preventing painful mats and tangles
-
Checking for bumps, irritation, or issues early
-
Bonding with our dogs in calm, positive ways
At Setareh Yorkies, grooming is part of our wellness routineānot just spa day.
š§¼ Our Go-To Grooming Favorites
āØ
1. Gentle, Nourishing Shampoo + Conditioner
We rotate between a couple of formulas that are:
-
Free of sulfates, parabens, and heavy fragrances
-
Gentle enough for sensitive skin
-
Leave their coat shiny, soft, and clean without drying them out
Bonus: If you havenāt tried PawTreeās dog shampoo, itās a great optionāespecially their soothing and skin-sensitive line.

2. Our Favorite Brushes + Combs
-
Pin brush ā for daily brushing and detangling
-
Stainless steel comb ā perfect for behind the ears, under the legs, and finishing touches
-
Dematting tool ā used sparingly for stubborn knots (especially helpful for Maciās puppy coat phase)
Daily brushing is key to keeping tangles under control and making grooming time stress-free.

3. Leave-In Conditioning Sprays
We love a lightweight detangler or conditioning mistāespecially during the dry months. It keeps their coat soft and prevents breakage.
Look for one without heavy alcohols or artificial fragrances.

4. Paw + Eye Wipes
Keeping tear stains at bay is a constant battle with Yorkies.
We use gentle, unscented wipes to clean under the eyes and around their paws as needed. Regular use helps prevent staining and build-up.

5. Nail Trimming & Ear Care
-
We keep a quiet nail grinder on hand for regular maintenance (much less scary than clippers!)
-
Cotton rounds + vet-approved ear cleanser help us gently clean ears and prevent wax build-up
š« What We Avoid
We steer clear of:
-
Strong perfumes ā too harsh for sensitive Yorkie skin
-
Drying shampoos with heavy foaming agents
-
Slicker brushes with sharp pins ā they can scratch delicate skin
-
Ear plucking unless medically necessary (can do more harm than good!)
š¬ Final Thoughts
Grooming isnāt a choreāitās a chance to connect with our dogs, care for their health, and show them love in a way they feel physically and emotionally.
Plus, who doesnāt love the smell of a freshly washed Yorkie snuggled up next to you?
