What to look for in a responsible breeder Part 5

Image from Stockcake   Knowledge is Key Every breeder starts somewhere, and I remember my early days as a “newbie.” However, I firmly believe that anyone considering breeding should first have a solid understanding of their breed, including aspects like structure, coat, temperament, and care. If you find yourself needing to reach out to other breeders for answers to basic questions about the puppies you’re interested in, it may be worth reconsidering that breeder’s qualifications. As a responsible breeder, I make it a priority to research and learn when I encounter questions I can’t answer. Today, countless online resources and courses are available on puppy development, genetics, temperament, and more. Breeding is a career that demands ongoing education. I live by the motto “Know Better, Do Better,” and I strive to embody this principle as I continually enhance my breeding program with the knowledge I gain. Yorkies and Kids: How to Foster a Positive Relationship

Yorkshire Terriers, with their small size and loyal nature, can make great companions for children. However, it's important to create a positive environment that ensures safety and harmony for both your Yorkie and your kids. Here are some tips for introducing your Yorkie to children and fostering a loving bond: 1. Start with Supervised Introductions When introducing your Yorkie to children, always supervise their initial interactions. Yorkies are small dogs, and sudden movements or loud noises can be overwhelming for them. Teach your child to approach the dog gently and slowly, using calm tones and soft touches. This allows your Yorkie to feel comfortable and safe in the presence of children. 2. Teach Respectful Behavior It's essential to educate your kids on how to handle your Yorkie respectfully. Make sure they understand that Yorkies are fragile due to their small size and can easily get hurt if played with roughly. Encourage your child to avoid pulling the dog's fur,

What to Look for in a Reputable Yorkie Breeder: Part 4

Image from StockCake What to Look for in a Reputable Yorkie Breeder: Part 4 Health Guarantee. A reputable Yorkie breeder will always provide a health guarantee for their puppies. From my experience, any health guarantee shorter than two years is essentially meaningless. A few years ago, I purchased a poodle with a one-year health guarantee, planning to conduct preliminary health testing just before the year was up. While the testing went well and he passed, he started facing severe health issues shortly after his first birthday. This led to thousands in vet bills and ultimately the heartbreaking decision to put him to sleep due to multiple health problems and a poor quality of life. It was one of the most traumatic experiences I've had as a breeder. I loved him dearly but couldn’t let him suffer any longer. When I reached out to the breeder, I received a simple "sorry." Severe health issues may not manifest until after that one-year mark, and I learned my lesson the ha
